Every year on the 1st weekend in June, the Mining Experience Days invite visitors to discover the Ore Mountains, their mining history and, since 2019, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unfortunately, the Mining Experience Days with the main site of the Ehrenfriedersdorf tin mine had to be cancelled in 2020. As in previous years, over 30 participants had organised special guided tours and insights behind otherwise closed doors for their visitors.
Many museums and tourist facilities have already reopened and tell the story of over 800 years of mining history. Those who prefer to stay in nature can explore the impressive landscape of the Erzgebirge on the numerous well-signposted hiking trails and mining nature trails. In 2021 the Mining Experience Days with the main location Marienberg invite you to discover the World Heritage Site in the Erzgebirge mining region/Krušnohoří.
Experience the mining traditions of the Ore Mountains, see rare mining technology in action, join special tours down the mines and above ground, or walk the hiking trails in the footsteps of the miners. Mines, mining museums and mining landscapes offer both young and old the opportunity to explore more of our heritage. From Johanngeorgenstadt to Zinnwald, a whole range of organisations invite visitors to come and get to know a major part of our cultural landscape during the “2019 Mining Experience Days”. The “Mining Experience Days” are held on the first weekend in June each year at the same time as the Germany-wide UNESCO World Heritage Day.
