Museum - Castle Lauenstein

It is a jewel of Saxon Renaissance architecture.  Admire the beautiful rooms of the Renaissance castle and discover more than 30 showrooms exciting history and stories, enjoy the herb garden and delight in a family-friendly exhibition.

Mining had a tremendous influence on the economic and cultural development of the eastern Ore Mountains. The mining town of Lauenstein reflects this in an impressive way with its representative castle and the richly furnished church of St. Mary and St. Laurent.

First mentioned in writing in 1242, Lauenstein's castle with gatehouse, farm buildings, main castle and gardens is essentially in Renaissance style. The reconstructed park and the palace garden with its useful and ornamental plants typical for the Ore Mountains frame the unique palace complex.

Special exhibitions and concerts provide a varied and cultural programme. Wedding ceremonies are held regularly here. Lauenstein Castle is an important  testimony to the mining region of the Ore Mountains/Krusnohori as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today, the Osterzgebirgsmuseum, founded in 1979, presents a diverse exhibition for the whole family.
